Visitors to Ivana's House of Fairy Tales can take part in various creative and educational workshops.

Fazzle (fairy tale + puzzle)

This workshop consists of two parts: the first part requires a group of visitors to put together a puzzle representing a given fairy tale; in the second part, different groups compete in presenting (through the use of sound, movement or speech) the fairy tale they have put together. The committee, consisting of visitors to Ivana's House of Fairy Tales, evaluates the presentations and determines which of the groups has been the most successful in completing the tasks. The most successful group wins a prize.
Aim: to stimulate children's imagination and expression through various creative activities

The Best Illustrator

Participants draw illustrations of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić's fairy tales by looking at illustrations made by the artist Vladimir Kirin, the illustrator of Ivana's work. Random selection will determine which of the illustrations on display will be used as a model. The most successful illustrators win a prize!

The Search for the Magic Object

Complete ten tasks related to our hostess Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić and her fairy tales! Then explore the mysterious chambers of the Enchanted Castle of Ivana's House of Fairy Tales to discover and find the hidden magic object.

Aim: to increase knowledge about Tales of Long Ago and Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić; to stimulate inventiveness and imagination

Fairy Tale According to Propp

This workshop is intended to introduce participants to Vladimir Propp, the author of Morphology of the Folktale (1928), a study which presented the notion of functions in fairy tales. Participants will use these functions – depicted and explained in our permanent exhibition – as a 'recipe' for writing his/her own fairy tale. The best of these will be included in a future publishing project of Ivana's House of Fairy Tales.

Am I...?

Each participant in this workshop chooses one crown. The name of a fairy-tale character or object is written on each of the crowns, but in such a manner that it is visible to all the participants of the workshop except the one wearing the crown. The crown-wearer asks questions and, based on the answers given by the other participants, tries to guess which character/object s/he is. The first participant to guess his/her identity is the winner.

Write Your Own Fairy Tale

Participants in this workshop develop and write their own original fairy tales based on a random selection of words. The words are combined to make sentences and tell familiar fairy tales in new and unique ways. A selection of these 'new' fairy tales will be included in a future publishing project of Ivana's House of Fairy Tales.

Aim: to stimulate literary expression and increase knowledge about fairy tales
Target group: visitors aged 11 and over

The Sounds of Fairy Tales

This workshop consists of two parts: the first part includes relaxation and a series of speech and vocal exercises, while the second part consists of expressing emotions through the use of a unique passage from a fairy tale. The jury, made up of visitors to Ivana's House of Fairy Tales, decides who has been the most authentic in expressing his/her emotions. This participant wins a prize.

Guess Who or What I Am!

Participants observe and draw fairy-tale characters or objects. However, the drawings have to be made in such a way that they are not instantly and/or easily recognisable, so that the other participants have to guess what the pictures represent. The most successful participants win a prize.

Creative Expression

Participants are divided into groups and read selections from “Reygoch”, a fairy tale by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. Each group has to draw a picture which illustrates the content they have just heard. However, they need to change or leave out something from their picture. The other groups have to figure out what is different/missing from the drawing. The most successful group wins a prize.

Fairy-tale Apprentices

In this educational game, players throw the dice and answer questions. Correct answers allow them to move forward until they reach the finish line. The first player to reach the finish line is the winner. All you need to play is a head full of knowledge and a bit of luck!

The Magic Touch

Participants answer questions about Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić and her collection of stories Tales of Long Ago. The questions are hidden inside colourful balloons: each participant has to choose a balloon, find the question, and read it aloud. The most successful participants win a prize.
